Conclusions.
The behavior of the winter season 2000-2001 is classified as normal, if we consider that the Cuban archipelago was affected by a total of 19 cold fronts, and the climatic value is of 19,7.
Cuba was affected by fourteen weak cold fronts (74%) and five moderates (26%), not being present any of strong intensity, for which there are now five serial seasons without strong cold fronts.
Cold front number eight produced precipitation above 100 mm/24 hours in towns of the Western and central regions and strong rainfall in the oriental region.
Due to the influence of a mass of air of arctic origin, in the month of January, notable minimum temperatures took place in Cuba, mainly in different towns of the western part. The day January 14 of 2001, was the coldest in this winter season in the occident of the country. In this day the following values of minimum temperature were registered: 3,8 º C at Bainoa; 5,0º C at Güira de Melena, in the county of Havana and 5,5º C in Indio Hatuey, county of Matanzas.
The most intense gust (80 km/h) was registered at the meteorological station of Casablanca, when cold front number 16 was affecting, on December 19 2000.
